Cambridge, Massachusetts Anticipated Start date: June 5, 2017Duration: 10 weeksFull time (35h/wk), paid internship About Harvard Stem Cell Institute:Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) is a virtual institute that brings together more than 1,000 scientists in the schools and affiliated hospitals of Harvard. Having fulfilled the promise of its first decade by advancing the understanding of the potential of stem cell biology, HSCI is now focused on bringing stem cell-based treatments to patients as quickly as possible. JobTo support communications efforts and activities at Harvard Stem Cell Institute. Key ResponsibilitiesApplicants will work under the guidance of HSCI’s Communications Manager to:
  • Create easy-to-understand communications materials about HSCI research, initiatives, and programs for a variety of audiences;  
  • Create multimedia content for and edit/update content on HSCI web-based platforms;
  • Pitch, write, and copy edit communications materials, including press releases about HSCI research published in academic, peer-reviewed journals; and
  • Help compile and process analytics for HSCI webpage and social media accounts.
Basic QualificationsApplicants must:
  • Be enrolled in or graduated from a master’s level Communications or Journalism program;
  • Have a solid understanding of basic biological principles and a relevant background communicating science;
  • Be comfortable interacting with scientific experts and technicians;  
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Have strong organizational skills;
  • Be able to work independently and in a team setting; and
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe editing tools.
Additional QualificationsIdeal candidates will also have experience with:
  • Google Analytics;
  • Basic website/content editing platforms;
  • Social media platforms; and
  • Photo, audio, and/or video editing software.
