Research Summary

Our laboratory focuses on Cancer Genomics. Clinical observations at the bedside are investigated at the molecular level, to develop a better understanding of human cancer pathogenesis and translate this insight back to the patient. A particular area of interest is the cellular and molecular basis of solid tumor metastasis. We use tools for DNA, transcriptional, and proteomic profiling to generate genome-wide views of human cancer, emerging methods in stem cell biology and tissue engineering to experimentally model aspects of the metastatic process in vitro and in vivo, high-throughput genetic and chemical and live cell imaging tools to functionally probe identified genes and pathways, and computational biology to integrate information about the metastatic phenotype in silico using this complex data stream. Our major goal is to identify those molecular interactions that sustain advanced human tumors, to guide the development and clinical use of newer-generation cancer diagnostics and drugs.

Current areas of research include:

* Molecular determinants of solid tumor metastasis
* Cancer / progenitor cell - microenvironment interactions
* Predictive & prognostic cancer biomarkers
* Computational cancer biology
