Big advance against cystic fibrosis
Using skin cells of patients with cystic fibrosis, Jayaraj Rajagopal, MD, (right) and colleagues have created induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. “We’re not talking about a cure for CF; we’re talking about a drug that hits the major problem in the disease. This is the enabling technology that will allow that to happen in a matter of years,” said Rajagopal, the senior author on the paper. Postdoctoral fellow Hongmei Mou, PhD, (left) is first author on the paper. The work is featured on the cover of this week’s journal Cell Stem Cell.
