Join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists in a leading program in psychiatric disorder genetics and biology. The individual will assist in the derivation of pluripotent stem cells for use in the development and analysis of cellular models of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The individual will work very closely with one of our project leaders, and will be a key player in the molecular analysis of signal transduction pathways and candidate risk genes for psychiatric disease. The individual will interact and collaborate closely with other scientists and will be involved in a series of research activities, including experimental design, collaborative efforts between research groups, and the verbal and written communication of science.

Minimum degree and field of knowledge:    BS/BA in biology or equivalent field.
Years experience required:    0 - 5 years experience.

Duties:
The candidate will carry out independently the daily activities of the group deriving cellular models of psychiatric disorders:

•    Derivation and cell culture of induced pluripotent stem cells
•    Derivation of primary fibroblast cell lines
•    Perform standard molecular biological techniques (including cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR)
•    Perform immunophenotypic analysis of cells using flow cytometery
•    Ensures quality control of equipment, reagents
•    Participates in on-going quality control/assurance programs
•    Ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies
•    2 year commitment preferred

•    Excellent documentation skills
•    Ability to perform as a team member   
•    Must have good interpersonal skills  
•    Some weekend flexibility will be required
•    Computer experience is desirable
