Research Assistant (I)
Duties And Responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated research assistant to be part of a group that studies Type 1 Diabetes. The position will assist in the identification of novel antigens involved in autoimmune diabetes. The successful candidate will be involved in establishing a lentivirus-based high throughput screening platform to identify gene products implicated in disease and development. To this end, he/she will be expected for management, preparation and quality control of plasmids and virus. The successful candidate will be expected to perform molecular biology techniques (DNA subcloning, PCR), assist in cell culture (PBMC, T cells) and virus production, as well as to document and analyze experimental data sets. In addition to establishing the screening platform, research assistant will be engaged in setting up primary screens and will be responsible for characterization of hits. This is a one-year grant funded term position with the possibility for extension based on availability of funding.
Basic Qualifications
Laboratory experience in molecular and cell biology is required.
Additional Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in life sciences preferred. At least one year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience) in the field of immunology and/or high-through put screening preferred. Experience with tissue culture, molecular biological and immunology techniques are desirable. Must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
