Duties & Responsibilities
This position will support cutting-edge research programs in basic and translational biomedical science for a team of physicians and scientists at the Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (HSCRB.) More specifically, research involves the development of human embryonic stem cell lines with specific genetic modifications as part of an effort to study a variety of diseases, including diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and hepatitis. Under direction of principal investigator and senior researcher, responsibilities will include: maintain human embryonic stem cell lines in culture; develop DNA constructs for gene targeting of embryonic stem cell lines using a variety of molecular biology techniques, perform techniques to confirm gene targeting in stem cells, including PCR and Southern blot analysis; prepare RNA samples from cell lines for gene expression studies, and package lentivirus for transduction.  This is a grant funded position, and ongoing support for it is contingent on continued funding.

Basic Qualifications
College background or work experience in biological sciences is required.

Additional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in biological sciences, is preferred. Experience with basic laboratory techniques required and with molecular biology and cell culture preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated technical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are essential. The successful candidate must be able to perform as a team member in support of research program.
