Job Title:    Research Technician – Arlotta Lab

Employing Hospital and Department:  Massachusetts General Hospital, Center for Regenerative Medicine

Minimum degree and field of knowledge:  BS/BA in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Years experience recommended:  2 years experience or more.

Duties:
Under the direction of a Principal Investigator, the Research Technician carries out independently the daily activities of the laboratory which include:
• Responsibilities for a wide range of techniques in the laboratory including, but not restricted to, cell culture, DNA cloning and purification, RNA work, mouse colony management, tissue histology.
• Data Analysis: Documenting, compiling, and analyzing information obtained from laboratory experiments to develop new investigative techniques.

Other duties include:
• Laboratory daily activities: Prepares, orders, and maintains stocks of necessary reagents, solutions and supplies.
• Lab ordering and management: Prepares, places and follows orders of reagents and mice. Maintains lab records, compliance with safety, biohazard and radioactivity guidelines. Helps the P.I. with renewal of research protocols.
• Maintains laboratory equipment.

This position is ideal for candidates interested in the medical application of basic research, and is a unique opportunity for interacting in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment and to be trained in a variety of experimental approaches. Direct training by the P.I. and postdocs in the lab will be provided.

Required Skills:
• 2 years of experience in a research laboratory (at least one year of directly related, full-time lab experience), is strongly recommended.
• Ability to perform basic quantitative analysis of large data sets required. Prior experience in a high-throughput research environment, experience with neuronal cultures, knowledge of assay development, and experience with various types of cellular and biochemical assays are preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and with external contacts in a fast paced environment are required. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail are required.  
• 2 year commitment strongly preferred.
