A scientific collaborative established to fulfill the promise of stem cell biology.
"Bioprinting in Regenerative Medicine"
Organovo Scientific Presentation
Organovo is introducing their technology to our community on Thursday, December 16. If you find their technology interesting and relevant to what you do, we invite you to join us to learn first-hand about their technologies. Pizza and beverages will be provided. This program is offered free of charge to members of the HSCI community, but you MUST pre-register to attend by e-mailing Maureen Herrmann. Be sure to include your full name and organizational affiliation in the response.
Presentation by Marie Csete, MD, PhD - EVP, Research & Development, and Keith Murphy, CEO, Organovo, Inc.
Abstract:
Bioprinting in Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative medicine is coming into its own, based on recent progress in stem cell biology, tissue engineering and clinical transplantation. Many regenerative therapies in clinical trials rely on infusion of stem or progenitor cells in suspension, but major progress in regenerative therapies will require cell-based products made of many cell types to recapitulate organ metabolic function, and structure to support mechanical function. 3D bioprinting is a platform that facilitates construction of complex, multicellular tissues or organs in architectures appropriate for function. This talk will focus on some early uses of bioprinting technologies generally, and specifically on Organovo’s NovoGen MMX bioprinting capacity. Organovo’s 3D bioprinting has application in regenerative medicine beyond generation of therapeutic tissues, as a flexible tool for design of cell-based screening platforms for drug development, and for creation of 3D physiologically-relevant microenvironments for the study of stem cell behavior.
